We offer Physiotherapy to manage neck and back pain, joint pains, sports injuries and arthritic conditions. We can also help manage post-operative or post-traumatic rehabilitation. Each of our Musculo-Skeletal Physiotherapists has over 10 years of experience treating a full range of conditions. In addition, they have developed special skills through post-graduate study.

Zoe Ayre BSc(hons), MSc, MCSP, HCPC, MAACP, PhysioFirst

Zoe has experience treating and assessing a large range of musculoskeletal conditions using a variety of manual treatment approaches and Kinesio taping.

She has a Masters degree in Rehabilitation and has undertaken postgraduate training in acupuncture, the McKenzie Regime and Kinetic control. She teaches at a postgraduate level at the University of Bradford. Zoe also has experience working with GP specialists in musculoskeletal triage clinics, which requires an in-depth knowledge of a range of diagnoses and their management.

 

In addition to managing sports injuries and day-to-day sprains and strains, Zoe has a special interest in spinal rehabilitation, from acute pain to chronic conditions of the neck and back.

Wesley joined the Valley Clinic in June 2016 after relocating to Leeds from Australia. He graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree at University of Queensland (Australia) in 1999 and has over 20 years of experience working in private practice physiotherapy both in Australia and the UK. He has a passion for musculoskeletal physiotherapy and loves using hands on and exercise rehabilitation skills to optimise recovery and squeeze every last bit of improvement out of his patients.
He has worked alongside a Melbourne neurosurgeon rehabilitating clients with co-existing shoulder complaints after cervical spinal (neck) surgery. In addition to managing complex and chronic complaints, Wesley has treated many elite athletes including a junior Australian beach volleyball champion, an Australian female power lifting champion, Australian rules football players and runners.
In recent years Wesley has completed training courses in rib and pelvis MET techniques, paediatric musculoskeletal conditions, TMJ (jaw) techniques, visceral manipulation and strength and conditioning. Other post graduate training includes ball based exercise rehabilitation, MET management of low back and sacroiliac joint injuries, management of chronic pain and trigger point release. Wesley uses acupuncture and dry needling in his treatment plans when needed.

Diane Hopton BSc(Hons), MCSP, HCPC, MAACP

Diane has experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. She uses a variety of treatment techniques such as manual therapy, core stability training and Kinesio taping.

Diane has worked at a senior level in the field of orthopaedic rehabilitation and has post-graduate training in Pilates, Kinesio taping and acupuncture.

As well as managing common musculoskeletal conditions, Diane enjoys treating low back pain and knee pain.

Graeme Stevenson is a highly experienced Advanced Practice Physiotherapist, Sport and Exercise Scientist, MSK Sonographer and Independent Prescriber with over 20 years’ experience specialising in musculoskeletal healthcare.

He has extensive experience having worked in a wide range of environments from elite sport, MOD, NHS and private practice. Graeme has had the honour working with the medical teams for the UK Special Forces, Elite Football – Newcastle United Football Club, Elite Gymnastics – Newcastle City, as well at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Graeme currently works as an 8a Advanced Practice Physiotherapist and MSK Sonographer at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. Here he is the Allied Health Professional Non-Medical Prescribing Lead and Lead Injection Therapist for the trust. Graeme offers a comprehensive physiotherapy service, integrating point of care ultrasound services (POCUS). Graeme performs regular diagnostic ultrasound / ultrasound guided injections clinics with referrals from Orthopaedic and Rheumatology Consultants, G.P.’s, Nurses, Podiatry and Physiotherapy.

The combination of Graeme’s clinical experience and advanced practice qualifications enable him to provide ‘one stop clinics’ in which a clinical assessment, diagnostic ultrasound scan and ultrasound guided injection can all be performed in a single appointment.

Graeme enjoys teaching injection therapydiagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections to fellow physiotherapists, sonographers and doctors as well as a visiting lecturer at Leeds Beckett University. He has an unrelenting commitment to clinical excellence and provides and strives to provide an exceptional quality service for all clients.

The treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery.

Sports injuries are injuries that occur in athletic activities. They can result from acute trauma, or from overuse of a particular body part.

Back pain is pain felt in the back that usually originates from the muscles, nerves, discs, joints or other structures in the spine. Back pain may have a sudden onset or can be a chronic pain; it can be constant or intermittent, stay in one place or radiate to other areas. Back pain often results from weak core muscles.

Arthritis is a global term describing diseases which cause painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints.

The McKenzie method is a classification system and treatment approach for patients with low back pain.

Kinetic Control involves the management of uncontrolled movement through retraining of muscle function.

Trigger Points are sensitive areas of the body, particularly tender areas in the muscle which cause generalised musculoskeletal pain when overstimulated.

These are the deep muscles of the body which are crucial for postural support and dynamic control.

Having to do with the muscular and skeletal systems, which provide form, stability and movement to the human form.
